As we continue to grow, we’re looking for an experienced Survey Pilot based in Johannesburg to join our dynamic team. This role is key to ensuring the accuracy and success of our aerial data collection missions, requiring precision flying, strong situational awareness, and close collaboration with onboard survey teams.

Responsibilities

  • Check the weather conditions to ensure it is conducive for takeoff and the flight as per the technical project requirements.
  • Perform flight planning, in conjunction with the aircraft systems engineer, to optimize flying hours in due regard to ATC, CAA, Ferry and weather restrictions.
  • Perform the required pre-flight checks to ensure the aircraft is airworthy.
  • Ensure all equipment in the aircraft meets the requirements of the specific modifications.
  • Liaise with the technical crew regarding the project and anticipated flight paths.
  • Liaise with the air traffic controllers to ensure the accuracy of the flight plan reflects the expected circumstances of the flight.
  • Update the aircraft logbook on a daily basis on the status of the journey and technical snags that were observed during the flight.
  • Update the aircraft logbook to manage the time to the next planned maintenance to ensure that there is enough time available to complete a task/project.
  • Book aircraft into the maintenance facility for planned or unexpected maintenance.
  • Operate the aircraft safely and economically to maximize on its ability and ensure the company spends minimally for every trip.
  • Ensure that every instrument in the aircraft is checked before and after takeoff to ensure a safe and trouble-free journey.
  • Update personal logbook daily with the flight times and ensure that the total flight times do not exceed the SACAA requirements.

Qualifications

  • 50 hours on type of aircraft.
  • 1000 hours total flying time.
  • 100 hours Survey Experience.
  • Hold as a minimum a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with type rating.
  • Must have completed and hold current certification on Cockpit Resource Management (CRM) training, Dangerous Goods (DG) training and Safety and Emergency Procedures training (SEPT)
  • Must have a valid radiotelephony licenses.
  • Must be appropriately qualified and licensed as required by the CARs;
  • Must have a Class 1 medical certificate.

Resulting Physical Qualifications:

  • Must be prepared to travel internationally for extended periods of time.
