BA is hiring a Director of Aviation Design to join our dynamic Buildings Sector at our Coral Gables office. The Director of Aviation Design is responsible for leading the development of design standards, overseeing the development of design presentations and graphics as well as, the development of aviation project designs across the firm. The role is also involved in business development efforts, in addition to recruiting and mentoring of architectural staff to elevate the design talent of the group.

Responsibilities

  • Proven and dynamic leadership to elevate and champion BA as an award-winning aviation terminal designer internally and externally to attract the best-in-class aviation planners and designers to our firm.
  • Drive the development that optimizes the design team and oversees the delivery of project design value from conception to close-out. Provide the necessary guidance and vision to consistently produce exceptional architectural designs.
  • Mentor and inspire young aviation designers and project managers to excel in the field.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders to ensure accurate understanding of early design work and understanding of stakeholder vision. Work with design teams to tailor our efforts to accomplish that vision without hindering or burdening the design team’s efforts.
  • Expand our services in Central Florida, namely the Tampa/St. Pete area, and expand our client reach.
  • Review and collaborate on solutions for project design issues whenever they arise in the design process, from conceptual design through construction documents and
  • Collaborate with Project Architects, Project Managers/Program Directors and other QA/QC Leaders to incorporate feedback on constructability and cost impacts; as well as, with value engineering directives to incorporate changes to the design solution that will allow the balance of design objectives and budget/schedule parameters.
  • Participate in Business Development efforts, including creation of written and presentation materials as well as planning for and participation in presentations and meetings to position our firm and win projects.
  • Participate in aviation conferences at the state and national level as subject matter expert (SME), or panelist/speaker to properly promote our expertise as aviation planners and designers.

Qualifications

 

Skills & Proficiencies:

  • Proficient in leading and managing meetings, assigning workloads, and supporting collaboration across teams and departments. Well-developed organizational skills are a must to help you coordinate tasks and direct all parties to ensure work is completed according to plan and finished on time.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills and ability to express technical and nontechnical concepts clearly and concisely
  • Exceptional graphic eye and hand-drawing skills to be able to quickly sketch concepts and presentations that portray a solid understanding of the client’s design objectives
  • Working knowledge and ability to collaborate with advanced users of Sketchup, Revit and/or Lumion – in addition to other design tools critical to illustration of designs
  • Ability to effectively synthesize feedback and turn around deliverables quickly
  • Ability to foresee potential constructability issues and proactively address them
  • Detail-oriented paired with the ability to see the big picture
  • Ability to generate stakeholder buy-in through dynamic communication across multiple internal departments, owners, architects, and subcontractors
  • Creatively provide feedback to architects and other parties to improve the project and strengthen relationships
  • Advanced proficiency in collaboration, communication, and leading teams

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture
  • Minimum 15 years’ hands-on design experience
  • Professional licensure
