The Survey Crew Chief Level is an entry-level supervisory position within the survey and geomatics discipline, responsible for leading a survey crew in the field under the guidance of the Survey Team Leader. This role involves performing field survey work for various types of projects, ensuring accurate data collection and compliance with industry standards and company procedures.
In this role, you will also provide basic guidance and training to junior survey crew members, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Assisting the Senior Survey Crew Chief and/or Survey Team Leader in evaluating the performance of crew members will help develop the skills and capabilities of the team.
As a Survey Crew Chief, you will assist in leading a survey crew to conduct field surveys, including boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built surveys. You will operate survey instruments such as total stations, GNSS equipment, levels, and data collectors and be responsible for processing daily files with software packages such as Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, Global Mapper, and Bentley Microstation to ensure task completion. Preparing detailed field notes and sketches to document survey activities is also a key part of the role. You will follow the project requirements, goals, and schedules as outlined by the Senior Survey Crew Chief or Survey Team Leader, ensuring that survey work adheres to project plan, client requirements, and accuracy standards. Assisting in monitoring project progress and reporting any issues or delays to the Senior Survey Crew Chief or Survey Team Leader is essential for maintaining project timelines.
Conducting initial quality control checks on survey data and field measurements, verifying the accuracy of survey data to meet necessary tolerances and standards, and adhering to company quality control procedures are crucial responsibilities. Promoting and enforcing safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment is paramount. This includes conducting regular safety checks of survey equipment and vehicles and ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations / guidelines and maintaining team PPE inventory.
