Overview

This entry-level position will focus on TxDOT-related transportation projects and will offer the opportunity to work collaboratively in a team environment. The role involves various aspects of schematic and PS&E bridge design, structural evaluations, and other engineering tasks under the supervision of experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively in a team environment to accomplish task assignments related to schematic and PS&E bridge design for a variety of transportation projects, with the focus on TxDOT work.
  • Entry Level position to perform evaluations of structures of various degrees of complexity, prepares plans, designs, calculations, and cost estimates under the supervision of experienced engineers.
  • Assists with the evaluation, development, design, or selection of required structures.
  • Calculates estimated quantities and cost estimates for structures.
  • Provides guidance to CADD technicians for the development of structural design plans.
  • Performs quality control reviews of design plans and calculations.
  • Reviews fabricator shop drawings.
  • May use MicroStation CADD to perform engineering tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by project team/supervisor.

Qualifications

  • ABET accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 0–4 years of professional experience. 
  • EIT/FE certification or ability to achieve within 12 months of hire.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to write reports.
  • Experience with MicroStation preferred.
  • Master’s degree in structural design or engineering preferred.
  • Experience/knowledge in ANY of the following is a plus but not required:
    • Industry software such as PGSuper, OpenBridge Designer, ORD, OBM.
    • TxDOT or AASHTO design manual/specification/standards
