Job Summary

A civil CAD technician is responsible for creating CAD drawings, layouts, and designs using basic design and engineering principles and reviewing the drawings to ensure compliance with design standards. A civil CAD technician works in a complete 3D environment and uses full AutoCAD capabilities.

Essential Functions

• Prepare dimensional drawings, installation drawings, and more complex drawings
• Review blueprints, plans, specifications, and other customer documentation if service is requested by the engineer or project manager
• Perform quality control redline checks before having plan sets roll up to Project Managers
• Work with AutoCAD functions including sheet set manager, tool palettes, AutoCAD annotations, Civil 3D annotations, tables, and scales
• Develop design models including points, alignments, profiles, cross sections, corridors, surfaces, and pipe networks
• May assign/manage efforts in the CAD/Civil 3D department
• Train staff on the most current technologies being utilized in the industry
• Coordinate with other members of the design team

• Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in CAD
  • 0-5 years experience using CAD in a professional setting
  • Ability to work proficiently with AutoCAD and Civil 3D (Civil Engineering design and documentation software) is required
  • Ability to communicate thoughts and concepts with team members
  • Strong knowledge with CAD set up using surveyor data
  • Possess knowledge of coordinate systems, cartographic layout and design techniques
  • Basic understanding of Civil engineering and design practices
  • Ability to prepare various support graphics for reports and meetings
  • Computer skills: AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD Map, and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with AutoCAD Map is preferred.
